Hi,

I'm thinking of opening a Santander Current account and switching online just to claim the £100 plus £45 cash back through quidco.

Just a few questions first if anyone knows...

Do i have to close my account i have now?

Will i have to switch all direct debits?

How long do I need to stay with santander to claim the switching reward?

I currently bank with halifax and i want to stay with them as I dont like the feedback about santander's customer service, but would quite like to get the £145 for a little bit of effort.

Thanks in advance

Yes you have to switch using the account switcher service (which will transfer over your direct debits) and you get the money after 3 months.

If its the same account as I have applied for, you have to switch using their switching service, which includes moving all your direct debits on the account you're switching. But you don't have to close your old account (tho they lean on you to do so). You also have to pay in £1000 every month for at least 3 months, to get the money.

I did this recently but didnt see the cashback, so I only got £100 for signing up and a £25 voucher, bummer!

Considering all the complaints about Santander, nothing has gone wrong so far...

does switching also include transfering the money from the old bank to the new account?

    Nope
As there is no requirement to close the old bank a/c the money in the old current a/c could stay as it ia.
Only all direct debit (DD) and standing order (SO) need to be switched using their dedicated switching team ..

You do it through Quidco ? Things tend to take quite long on that these days. Judging my my recent things, it could take 3/4 months alright. Do you know if it tracked okay ??

Am thinking of doing this myself, tbh. Have been with A&L before. May have to consider it. Are they still doing the 5% for a year...?

Don't do it, I know the £145 sounds easy but going through the forums this seems to be more difficult than it looks and people start to get frustrated with Santander and have to make a number of phone calls before everythings sorted out.

There's also something about you having to have the account for 3/4 months before they'll give you the £100. They're catching on to what people are doing me thinks. Be careful.
  • Just a word of warning, I was an A & L current account customer for years without any serious problems but over the last week or so I have had to deal with the utter uselessness of Santander and their various call centres. Please think very carefully about whether you have the necessary bloody mindednes that seems to be required to deal with them

i have a joint santander account with my husband and opened another current account with santander in just my own name going via quidco. at the time there was no cash incentive from santander for me though i did get my payment via quidco.

basically you need to ensure that a set amount of money (£500 i think) goes into the account each month. what i do is have my wages paid into one account and then set up a transfer so that the minimum amount needed goes to the other one. i then use that account for just paying any direct debits etc.

you are right about the poor service santander offers and the only reason i'm with them is i was originally an alliance and leicester customer but have had lots of problems since the change over

Got to be an easier way of making a measly £145 quid?
