Insuring my cats, any advice?

We have settled with Petplan for £58.69 a month for all 4 cats
That includes £6000 worth of cover per year, plus there's £85 excess and I'll be keeping 85 aside just in case..
Ahhh! Wish this could have been easier to sort out, thank goodness I checked reviews first and shopped around. ALWAYS make sure you know exactly what you are getting for your money as I was thinking of going with Directline and its nowhere near as good the cover I was quoted for by Petplan..Matthew, Izzy, Suzie, Harry, Darwin. My husband my cats, the main things that matter in my life...0 -
Can I ask which policy you got? I can only see cover for £3,000 (time limited), £4,000 and £12,000. Thank you.We have settled with Petplan for £58.69 a month for all 4 cats

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I phoned them up and the chap on the phone said they had 4 types of cover, 3 of them were quotes for the life cover which was what I was after, they mentioned the £4000 and £12000 cover, but over the phone was where I found out about the £6000 cover..
I don't understand why they don't advertise the £6000 cover on there website, suppose in this case it pays too phone them direct, especially as its an 0800 number, think it was 0800 316 3943.
The guy on the phone said they cover for dental and that there premiums don't go up if you make a claim if that also helps...
Anyway hope all the above is of any help to you?Matthew, Izzy, Suzie, Harry, Darwin. My husband my cats, the main things that matter in my life...0 -
hope the cover rolls over to the next year ie if your cat has a chronic problem, that it can be carried over into the next insurance year and still be covered? Many older cats get chronic kidney failure, which can last several years and cost a fortune.
I was with Animal Friends, they were great and settled claims quickly. They started out being underwritten by E&L...but changed underwriters in 2009 I think.
There's no way round the small print on pet insurance. Is there an MSE guide on pet insurance?
Purrs to your cats. I miss mine terribly and know what you mean when you say how important they are to you.0 -
I think petplan are the bee's knees! To keep Dave covered its £12 a month, I can't remember the exact policy details off hand, but its a for life policy with a £70 excess and a sizeable chunk of cash they will pay out.
One of the deciding factors in going with them is that they will pay out directly to the vet and my vet have a very good relationship with them (i.e the vet will fill out the claim form for no fee for PP) to date I've had to claim over £1500 (he's only 2 and a half, but very accident prone!)
They did put the policy price up slightly this year (about 75p a month) but thats inflation I guess?Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0
