anything I can do?

Back in March I bought a grafix handprint kit to do with my baby. However time got away with me as it does when you have a newborn and I have only just got round to trying it. I opened the box to find the gel missing (you mix the gel and pour into a mould, make the print and then pour the plaster in). Without the gel this product is dangerous as the plaster gets quite hot when setting (there have been incidents of injury and burns).
Anyway I contact the retailer I bought it off to state parts were missing to be told as it had been 14 days they couldn't help. (must remember never to buy presents there unless I am buying at last minute!!)
I have tried to search for the contact details for grafix but have not had much luck.
Is there anything I can do to either get my money back or the gel from the retailer or the company if I can find the details anywhere online?

I imagine in the eyes of the law it is deemed that you have accepted the goods, and unless you can prove it was missing you have no leg to stand on.
All all fairness to the retailer though, a customer coming back 1/4 year later saying an item was missing must seem a little suspicious.
I was in a similar situation once before (as a retailer), a customer telephoned me a whopping 5 months after purchase stating they haven't received their items, after alot of discussion I eventually agreed to send a replacement just to find two weeks later the same customer demanding a refund for non-received items!! :O Luckily this time I had proof of delivery which clearly showed her signature!
The point is some people completely take the mick and they have no reason to think otherwise in this situation! (even if your genuine).
Plus their supplier is very unlikely to compensate the missing item so they would be at a loss.0 -
Very little you can do I am afraid, its down to the goodwill of the company concerned as the a period beyond reasonable has lapsed since you pruchased the item - its the same with nearly every manufacturer - unfortunately, the individual circumstances (baby birth) don't change the suppliers obligation.
The fact the gel is missing does mean that the product is not usable, agreed, but even so, the fact the gel is missing after all this time does not require the retailer to replace.
Like I say, down to goodwill, if they've said no have you asked them if you can purchase the gel separately?0 -
Thanks for your help.
Thought I would just ask. Looks like I will have to buy another kit.0 -

Before you do that, why not send an email to the email address mentioned on the website highlighted by sweep9?
In my experience, and if you don't shout and rave and quote endless pages of consumer legislation, companies are usually happy to send out a replacement item.0 -

Sound and sage advice, but there will be no pages of consumer legislation to cover his.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
