weedkiller for driveway

Hello, I'm hoping someone can give me some advise on the easiest way to make & keep our driveway weed free.

Mum & I moved into our new house a year ago, and consequently got a much bigger back garden than either of us have ever had before! We've actually found we are fairly green fingered and the garden is full of lovely flowers and a little veg patch, producing all sorts of delicious things!

Along with the house also came a large driveway approx 50ft x 50ft and we are trying to make it as easy to cope with as possible, so that we only have the back garden to deal with.

At the moment we have a concrete strip leading from gate to the house and then a large gravel parking area to the right. There was also a border of apporx 5ft all around the gravel but we have dug up the shrubs etc and are in the process of deweeding and flattening, ready to extend the gravel area. In an ideal world, we would get professionals in to completely redo the whole drive but I'm afraid money is an issue, after having an annex built last year.

As we are trying to make this as low maintenance as possible (Mum's 71 & I'm 50), I wonder if anyone has any ideas on how to make it as weed free as possible? I know we can put a liner down, but as the weeds I have dug up have come through the existing liner I'm not sure that really works. Is there a weedkiller you can sprinkle on that will make sure nothing grows through for at least a year? We also live opposite a large park, so get the occasional tree sprouting, although I pull those as soon as I see them!

Another thought is that I get a company in to spray weedkiller but I'm not sure how I go about doing this and whether it will cost a fortune?

Any suggestions, tips will be greatly appreciated!
