Would this lamp be suitable for a hallway?

Hi all
I live in an Edwardian maisonette with high-ish ceilings and two pendant lamps that need replacing. I'm not overly keen on the old-fashioned hanging lamp style that is currently in place, and would like to replace with something a bit more modern-looking, possibly this type:

does anyone here have these lamps and/or do you think they will throw out enough light? The ceiling downstairs, by the front door is actually quite low but the one on the upstairs landing is higher. At the moment the pendants just take normal 100watt bulbs and do the job OK
Thanks all - these are the only pendants I've liked after 9 months of looking, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one!

It rather depends on the wattage of the bulb you are going to use.
Just remember that Ikea light fittings use Edison Screw rather than bayonet sockets.
Also your bulb choice is now restricted to CFL or Halogen.

All good points, thanks. We've got some similar Ikea lamps and use a large-sized 20w bulb that is equivalent to 95w and is pretty bright. I'd have thought this would be enough; until now we were using quite small old-style bulbs.
I really don't like the light from low energy bulbs but I do use them because I want to save energy! So I would probably be doing that regardless, and the Ikea 'globe' type are some of the best I've tried.0 -
the shade on that one is pretty dense, so depending on what you have at the moment, it might not give as much light0
