jelderkin posted their personal opinion, (Personally as an experienced eBay seller I would only accept paypal) and their opinion is just as valid as yours, mine, or anyone elses, and they didn't state or imply that anyone else needs to do the same as them.
All they stated was for them, "postal orders etc are just more hassle then there worth", which if they don't live near a post office and can't get to one during the day due to family or working commitments, is a fair point.
Maybe not a much better deal if you have to take time off work or spend a few £s in petrol and parking fees in order to cash a PO worth a small amount.
The OP is quite happy to take cheques. Read their post. What does it add to state what he does, I do or you do? May not live near a Post Office or is housebound etc. etc.? He's an ebay seller, don't be ridiculous.0 -
Only uncrossed POs are as good as cash. Crossed ones are as good as cheques with the dilemma discussed above of whether to send immediately or not.
Crossed orders are nothing like cheques, except for having to be paid in to a bank account. They can't be cancelled with a phone call, nor can they bounce. So goods should be sent immediately.0 -

The post where you commented thatOh you would? Postal orders are as good as cash, i.e. much better deal for the seller than paypal. I suggest you read more before you postdon't be ridiculous.
Don't you think other people are entitled to their opinions then? They can't be cancelled with a phone call, nor can they bounce0 -

However, you are willing to offer a seller more than the price you won an item for (as stated on another thread).
A lot of people may think that you are stupid for doing this and might also suggest that you read more before you post.
Someone who thinks it's a good idea to send a £400 item recorded in fact. I questioned why it's not a good idea. If we sell on ebay, we go to post offices. Where's the problem?
I'm struggling to relate the last bit to this post. If you think it's stupid to make sure of something you want at a still bargain price rather than "stick to your guns" and end up paying more, good on you. "Lots of people" can think what they like.0 -

The post where you commented that
was not directed at the OP but at jelderkin (who is not the OP).
Postal orders are a better method of payment than paypal for the seller. That's a fact.
So, someone has a different opinion and you think that they are being ridiculous.
Don't you think other people are entitled to their opinions then?
Your scenario of an ebay seller being miles from a PO, or unable to get out of the house is ridiculous.
Unless they are forged or stolen. (unlikely for a low value order I know, but to state that they can't bounce is wrong
Bounce means to be rejected due to lack of funds. Can't happen.0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
I have fairly easy access to a post office so the one i received i took with me when i went to send the item and paid for the postage from it. This seemed to work well.
Cheques are a bit more of a pain as my bank isnt that easy to get to so i might reconsider allowing them as dont want to lose my stars.
At the end of the day, if everyone paid in uncrossed postal orders i would be quite happy as i wouldnt have the fees and if they were fake i just wouldnt send the item from the post office on the day i cashed them and sent it!

The problem with this is that uncrossed postal orders are treated exactly the same as cash by Royal mail so to be covered in the event of loss they would have to be sent by special delivery which would cost the buyer £5.45.0 -
