    A lot depends on the LL. Being too demanding could backfire on the OP.

    The only legal constraint on the LL is option 1, which requires both parties to honour the 6 month term unless they reach a mutually acceptable alternative.

    If the OP pushes for too much, the LL may just say "sorry, forget option 2 - you have to stay (or at least pay for) the 6 months".
