Am currently on prepay meter but have heard it works out much more expensive than bill. Is it cheaper and worth it?

If you search this forum you will find several threads on this subject.

    Basically:

    1) PPM prices roughly equal standard credit tariiff (paper billing, pay on bill).
    2) Cheaper is credit pay by DD.
    3) Cheapest is onlinde account pay by DD.

Golden rule for options 2 & 3 is to submit regular meter readings to ensure you dont end up with a 'catch up' bill due to estimated bills.

The other things to consider are:

    1) With ppm you pay as you go so chance of large bills or building up debt.
    2) Paying on bill typically, for gas, gives you two large bills and two smaller ones.
    3) Paying by DD means you pay the same every month.

And remember that you may be charged for a meter change and/or asked to pay an initial deposit on your credit meter.

I am in a rented housing association flat and am in a similar situation. Both my electric and gas are prepay and with Scottish power. What I would like to know is:Would anyother provider be cheaper than my current provider on the same ppm?
How can I compare my costs/usage on ppm to none ppm?

I am in full time employment at around £1200/month.
