Bank account for backpacking/traveling?

I am due to go traveling from December for 9-10 months throughout Australia, New Zealand and America. I have a HSBC current account at the moment, but i need help on the best bank account to have to withdraw money abroad and have funds transferred in from home. Can anyone recommend a bank or building society?
