Last Owner's mail

Hi

We finally completed on the purchase of our first home last week (:T )!
We've set up new account for our utilities but have been receiving the final bills for the previous owners of the property.
How do I pass this on to the previous owners? Via the estate agent or do I contact my solicitor?

I do happen to have the address of the new owners ( was written on one of the notifiation of sales letter) . Should I just redirect the mail straight there?

thanks in advance for your help

I'd forward it direct to them and write a note suggesting that they pay for the post office to automatically forward the mail for 6 months. After 6 months depending how much you're still getting I'd return it to sender.

This morning, I got a `phone call for the previous owners - trying to sell secured loans. I moved in 3 years ago yesterday. Still get the odd mail as well. I just bin it now.
  • I bought out my ex from our former family home. When I eventually got the keys and sole ownership I started receiving all his huge bills, debts and even court summonses for this like upaid speeding fines.

I hand delivered a letter to his solicitor with a cc for him. Neither of them acknowledged my communication so know I just cross through my address and put his new one and pop it back into the post. I'm certainly not going to rack up phone and postage charges because he's knowingly retaining everything at my address.

I did however ring the courts issuing the fines. My utility suppliers are different now so I'm not concerned about getting cut off.

If I were you, I'd check with your local council that all former residents have been removed from the electoral roll as alot of companies use this for a chasing address.
    Integrity is a dying art!:p
