Bedroom decor - is it ok to mix white and cream?

Earlier this year I purchased a new bed and new bed linen to go with it. Well having lived with the linen for a few months I've now decided that, beautiful though it is, it is far too stuffy for me so I've bought a very simple but classic white set. My question - would it look ok to have white bedlinen with cream damask curtains?

I'd like to keep the colour range limited so was thinking of whites and creams in different textures rather than trying to match or co-ordinate colours.

It would also be much more MSE as I have the cream curtains from earlier in the year before I bought the new stuff.

Yes it would work really well.
I only buy white cotton linen due to be spoilt by all the hotels I've had to have overnighters in (working away)

Plus is you use white bedlinen you can change the wall/curtain colour without having to fork out for new bed stuff too. :)

Thanks. That's pretty much where I'm coming from too. The carpet is eau de nil, as are the walls and I love them but don't think colour on the bed works terribly well.
I've always been really fussy about sheets and below the coloured duvet was always crisp white sheets, usually Sheridan satin stripe so the more I think about it the more sensible white is and I've seen lots if nice cream cushions in different textures like knitted and satins.

I just needed a bit reassurance I wasn't making another decor faux pas!

Decor faux pas! Are you expecting the style police to turn up on your door step. Have whatever you fancy. If someone else doesn't like it, that's their problem, not yours.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

I'm not too worried about what anyone else thinks - I just don't want another expensive mistake:o

How will it be an expensive mistake. As long as you like it then it is not a mistake.

As others have said, presumably few people are going to see your bedroom decvor anyway? Take all the bedding off except your crisp white fitted or flat sheet and see what the room looks like. Personally I only like pure white bedding if there is so detail or texture otherwise it looks too much like a naked duvet! :p White and cream often works because they don't look like you tried to match but missed, as ivory and white together can do.

  • Hey, i have a cream sittee and a white fireplace and it seems to work fine! I've heard sometimes white next to cream can make it look a bit 'dirty'. But i've found if you put other cream items in the room it doesnt matter.
    just a thought :)
  • Cream and white can be great. We have cream walls up to the picture and rail and white over it and the ceiling. I suppose the 'dirty' cream may come with an off-white rather than a true cream but if you go for different textures or a true cream that won't be a problem. I guess the only issue will be keeping clean-looking!!

I had a cream duvet set and cream curtains, in a bedroom with pale blue walls and pale blue carpet.

The duvet set went thin and threadbare, so I treat myself to an expensive cotton white set as I love crisp white bedding. Never got round to replacing the curtains so they are still cream and it looks fine to me.

I've never really thought about it being an issue until I read this thread :o
Here I go again on my own....
