I broke up with my partner of six years a little while ago and we owned a house together and also a joint bank account. Since breaking up we have sold the house and paid off all debt we had together including closing the joint account we had. He has said we will still be financially linked for 10 years because of the joint account and if he went bankrupt it would affect me and vice versa is this true?

When was the last account closed?
I'm pretty sure you can ask for a 'notice of disassociation' to be noted on your credit file.0 -
No, he's either been listening to the wrong people or is winding you up.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

The bank and mortgage provider should automatically remove the financial associations they have created with the CRAs.
They may have already done this. Why not order your £2 credit reports (from all 3 CRAs) to confirm they have. If they haven't, then write to each provider requesting they do so, giving them 30 days to action your request. Then check with the CRAs that it's been done.
Important: When you order your reports DO NOT enter your ex partners details, as that, in itself, will create an association.0 -
Contact the CRA's and ask them to put on a notice of disassociation on your file. They'll probably ask you to write to them to do this. If he gets into any financial bother then it wont affect your record.0
