Asda and the helium balloon woman

Slight vent,
There i was a couple of days ago in Asda at the Cigarette/lottery counter.I was in a short queue and a young lady in front of me.I wanted cigs(but thats irrelevant i suppose).
The lady in front was buying one of those birthday helium balloons. There was only one assistant and that one assistant had to walk away to the helium machine and had lots of trouble blowing up the balloon. She summoned the help of a further 2 assistants.....the queue was gettin longer and longer, snaking around the news stand.....None of these 3 assistants could be bothered about serving this long queue of frustrated people because they were from other areas of the store!
We were all very patient(very British) but inside i was seething.
Conclusion? well finally made my purchase after a wait of about 10 minutes which is a long time to queue at the ciggy counter.
My advice to Asda would be to base this balloon machine thingy at Customer services which is usually well staffed.....aaaah thats better

I'd have shown them how to fill a balloon.:)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I'd have nipped off to the medication section, bought some nicotine patches at the self-checkout and continued waiting to be served
failing that i'd have stopped at another shop on my way home

you all make very good points. It was just the lack of customer focus that irritated i.e as though we were all invisible0

I don't think you are allowed to have the helium cylinder in an open public area ( H & S).
As for waiting 10 minutes, that's not so long, you could have been behind someone checking their lottery/scratch cards - grr,

It is quite irritating when you are stood there and something that should take 30 seconds take what seems like ages. It generally happens to me when i'm trying to do the lottery and someone in front of me wants lottery ticket which goes through one till, a couple of scratch cards which they have to do separately then some cigarettes. Every so often the lottery machine crashes and holds everything up for even longer. If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -
at least you weren't behind somebody paying for their monthly shopping with vouchers.0

I'd have lit a fag and used the hot end to burst the helium balloon...
(Not really, I'd have used the extra time to reconsider parting with hard-earned cash for something that would eventually give me lung cancer...):cool:0 -
