Have just checked the instruction manual for my camera (Sony W380) and it says the following:
I am slightly confused as the charger is based for in the UK. The instructions here say do not use a travel convertor....how do I charge this when abroad?!?!?
I am going to Australia btw.
Thanks
You can use the camera and the battery charger (supplied) in any country or
region where the power supply is within 100 V to 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz.
Do not use an electronic transformer (travel converter). This may cause a

The UK supply is 240v. Just check what supply is avaiolable in Australia. Unfortunately I don't know but my guess is all you need is a plug adaptor.0

By a plug adpater for the EU so a 3 pin to a 2 pin adapter0
-
The instructions mean a converter that converts AC current to DC current
What you need to buy and use is a device that allows you to plug in your UK type three pin plug into a foreign plug.
ie, a plug convertor, not a current converter.
Just buy an international travel adapter and you will be fine, trust me0 -
Thanks martin that makes sense0

it says 100-240v, meaning you can use the same plug anywhere in the world, the only thing you will need if the adapter to change the 3 pin system into the local system, no power changer/transformer is required.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -
I have an Australian laptop and the charger works fine in the UK, so I am sure your UK charger will work in Oz. As others have said all you need is a travel plug."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I'm going to Melbourne, Alice Springs & Ayers Rock, then going on a tour down the East Coast
Why I wanted a decent camera and hoping the panoramic mode will be useful!0 -
