Double Glazing Gone Bad

Hi,
I'm looking for some advice.
We recently signed 2 contracts with a local firm one to install double glazing in a bay window and the other to install a new door and window.
We paid deposit for both contracts.
The windows installed in the bay are all the wrong size however the company will only replace 2 windows which we believe will leave us with a bad finish.
The window they won't replace is 15cm shorter than the measurement specified in the contract. The company say they never uses these measurement only the measurements of their own surveyor.
We never saw or approved their surveyor measurements.
After 2 weeks of wrangling the MD came to our property and has offered no compromise and suggested going to arbitration.
So we have cancelled the 2nd job and asked for our deposit back, can we do this and will we get it back?
Should we let them finish the install even though we know its incorrect?
We have also emailed dgcos, will they help us or should I also go to trading standards? Is there anything else I can do?
A typical dgcos arbitration can take 3 months according to their website but we can't install our kitchen until the bay is finished! HELP!
Many thanks in advance
Matt

Hey,
I really need some advice on this problem. I'm going to call dgcos and Trading Standards today.

If the measurements are in the contract thats what both parties agreed to be fitted, the manufacturer must install to contracted specification unless they can justofy why they did not stick to contract (and in that case an ammendment or replacement contract should be provided).0

It's 15 cm too short and someone fitted it?
That's absolute madness. Paperwork or not, no reputable trades person should do that.
I hope I have misunderstood. Had my fill of builders!0 -
Ok the sizes you saw were salesmanship quote sizes companies then send the surveyor for exact sizes. 150mm is a !!!! up, someone mismeasured you didnt know what size they would be made too but you can rely upon BS that 5mm gaps around windows is reasonable not 150mm
Do not pay a penny more
Go for arbitration I assume they are members og dgcos if not dgcos won't help you, neither will fens or ggf unless the company is a member of those organisations.
You can cancel the other contract but return of deposits can only be guaranteed if within the first 14days.
You can check some of these details at https://www.doubleglazingcompanies.com and see if the company is a member of dgcos, ggf, fens etc also try wwwdgcos.org.uk https://www.ggf.org.uk fens.org.uk
SashmanBuying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run. :mad:0
