How long should it take between offer accepted and completion?

We've just sold to an investor and we're in rented so we didn't have a chain. The whole thing happened in 8 weeks from offer to completion, and that included an extra 10 days waiting for paperwork. It seemed like ages but we appreciate we're quite lucky compared with some time-lines.
The property we're buying is due to complete 10 weeks after we had our offer accepted, which is even more impressive, but as far as I can tell we're ready now (after 6 weeks)! - Even though we still haven't been told that all the searches have been done, only the environmental search. We've only chosen our particular dates as it coincides with our vendor's holidays. I've been in regular email/phone contact with estate agents and solicitors, even to the point that our solicitor said I was taking up too much of her time! We're paying a fixed fee for conveyancing services so I think I'm entitled to make a nuisance of myself to ensure things get done properly and in good time.
Good luck!0
