Home insurance:does this count as a previous claim?

Hi,
It's renewal time for home insurance and I'm in the process of getting quotes.
About 2 years ago I had water coming through the roof after a storm and the insurer said initially that they would pay for the repairs and sent Rainbow in to dry it out. When the quote for repair came in the insurer said it was due to wear and tear, and wouldn't pay the claim. They did put the cost of my cover up though....
I've had two conflicting statements from potential insurers: one said it counts as a claim, while the other says it doesn't. I'm concerned about putting down no previous claims and potentially invalidating the policy but I don't want to pay more than I need to, either.
Any thoughts?

it could be your insurance would have gone up anyway...no insurer I have ever worked for would load a premium for this. (Granted I dont work in insurance now, but that was never the done thing - more rumour than anything !)
I would mention it though, purely to cover yourself, as you started the claims process. If you had simply repaired it, as we all do household repairs when needed, and it is not an insured risk anyway, then there wouldnt be a need.0 -

Yes you should mention it. If the Insurers opened and closed a claim with payments made to Rainbow it might appear on CUE (claims underwriting exchange). As CUE might be checked before any new Insurers dealt with a claim, I don't think it is worth taking the risk. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
