Hi am after a bit of help...
oh has a 2ng gen ipod touch 8gig it's currently running firmware 3.1(7c144) i'm trying to update it to 4.0
when i try to restore it via file holding shift and clicking restore in itunes it extracts the firmware but keep getting
Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.
and if i use the update function in itunes (it's trying to download and install 4.2) itunes says i cant have it
anyhelp would be wonderful

as far as I can see the 7c144 build is for the iphone.
are you trying to update to the latest firmware 4.2.1? if not then apple is stopping you as they check each firmware update with their system.
download the ipod touch 2G 4.2.1/8C148 firmware, connect the ipod to the computer and in itunes shift-click Update select the firmware and all should be good.
if you get the same error, are you on the latest itunes? also are you connected to the internet when you try to update?
if you still get the error try it on another computer with itunes (just try the ordinary plug in and click Update (not the shift-click method), it it then fails and the other computer has the latest itunes and is connected to the internet then I suspect it is a problem with the ipod.0 -
I'm not sure a 2nd gen Touch can run version 4 of the OS.0
