Lloytron electric blanket

Options
Just bought a new dual control electric blanket.
It has two plugs working from 3 amp fuse.

Instruction booklet says (Do not use any extension cord)
If this is the case I am going to need another double wall socket put in place.
Don't expect that will be cheap.
Might just take the blanket back for a refund.

Can anyone tell me why an extension cable should not be used.

Appreciate any answers.

They are probably safeguarding themselves in case a house goes up in flames and their blanket is blamed. Personally, I'd rather put two thick duvets on the bed in winter rather than use an electric blanket, plus they have no running costs!

If you want ' belt & braces ' safety just change the 13a fuse in the extension to a 3a :)

As someone else stated the wall socket including the unnecessary expensive new one you propose to install will still be 13a, if you want to feel good about safety change the extension lead fuse to 3 or 5 amp.

  • I would just like to plug extension cable into wall socket and put the two electric blanket plugs into extension cable.

Does anyone think I should not do this.

I personally would do exactly that, though I would try to get a good-quality make of extension lead - the cheapest ones are horribly made when you look inside...

An alternative easy solution would be to buy one of the adaptor wall sockets that convert a single socket to a double (and IIRC you can also get a triple) without the need to make a bigger hole in the wall. They look a bit ugly as they protrude out from the wall further, but functionally they would be fine.
