Go on, admit it, how many of you opened this thread because you wanted to read something that was offensive?
Anyway.
For the first time ever in my 10 years since leaving university i am going to be DEBT FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!.
This is certainly a case of dark cloud & silver lining.
At the end of a hellish 6 months, the start of which i broke up with the woman i thought i's spend the rest of my life with, i'm now in the position where we are on the verge of selling the house we bought 3 years ago ( which in those 3 years has doubled in value ). This means i can clear loans, credit card, student loans & owe nobody nowt, and still have 25k tucked away for the deposit on a new house when i decide to buy again.
But, i have 8k on credit card on 0%, doesn't seem much point in paying this off, might as well card tart & put extra money away into savings, what do you reckon?

Certainly no point in paying off the 8k if its at 0%, just remember to get another CC lined up for when the 0% period finishes. In the meantime pay the minimum payment on the CC and reap the interest on the 25k! Post over on the Savings board and make sure you make the most of that 25k though! He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0

Interesting point about the standard of education nowadays.
I thought that whenever anyone used an I (including I'd and I'm) it should be capitalized!
I blame mobile phones and texting for this deterioration.
Then again it could just be laziness.
Back to the post though!
Keep as much as you can at 0% but not if it affects your borrowing for the extra required in any mortgage!Keep Smiling

They don't teach them to put verbs in sentences anymore, either.
Possibly you are being uncharitable  and all that happened is his finger slipped.I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.
If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.
Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?0 -
I think you're also forgetting the fact that natural language change over time is actually a perfectly normal thing. The spoken word is usually responsible for shortening things and reducing the use of certain gramatical points such as the subjunctive. An interesting point is that German and English do in fact have the same root however German still continues to use 2 forms of the subjunctive, whereas English only retains the use in certain old phrases such as "Long live the Queen".
You should never shun language change, even if it does initially spring from lazyness, in time these changes will either be adopted or forgotten and the English language will evolve. Unlike Germany, France and Spain there is no acadamy in charge of determining what is right or wrong, this is what makes English such an interesting language, changes occur when we decide to adopt them instead of being told what to say by a central body. However if you do not agree with any language change at all I would be interested to know which form of English you chose to speak, are you going to go back to Shakesperian English or even further back?
Now I may have made some mistakes in my post, however in the grand scheme of things I really don't think it matters. If someone is trying to show us how happy they are to finally lift a massive weight off their shoulders and be living debt free after all these years, then surely your attitude was not the most appropriate.
Daytona nev you must be so chuffed. I am a bit off paying off credit cards, graduate and student loans, but when I get to your stage I will also be the happiest person alive. Enjoy it and don't forget the lessons you've learnt. Don't pay off the 0% until it is paying interest again, the banks make enough from us so it's the only way to get something back. Happy tarting!0 -

You're right, of course. Not only that, I was appointed the "Site Pedant" months ago, and won't quickly relinquish my title -- so if someone else gets pedantic as happened here, I may subject them to my pedantry! :rolleyes:I have five stars! Cheers Fazer,
Yes, it's a nice feeling to be of the verge of debt-free status. Its the £1550 a month in disposable income i'm looking forward to also. As well as the mortgage, there's all the other associated costs of owning a house that i'm waving goodbye to. Bring it on.
And to address the other more anally retentive responses to my initial statement.
Yes, its purely down to quick typing & sheer laziness of not bothering to check my typos, punctuation & spelling mistakes. But then, this is an informal message board & not a English exam paper.
If i may be pendantic for a moment, i don't think it is pedantic to point out other's spelling & punctuation mistakes. I think its a self-esteem problem & a poor attempt at trying to publicly belittle others in to achieve a temporary feeling of superiority. e.g. incinuating its a poor level of eduation. Oh how you wish it were!!!
In other words..............get yourself out abit more, you're obviously very bored.0 -
Daytona, I was thinking we hadn't seen you around much lately. Sorry to hear things have been great. It's good news about the debt free bit though.
Make sure it stays that way and don't be tempted by any flash motorbikes.Herman - MP for all!0 -
'don't be tempted by flash motorbikes.'
hmmmm........its difficult....might need to tie my cash up for a year possibly......
Am buying a few bling extras for the current one though. That should stem any urges for a while.0 -

Oh, some of us just love words, and playing games with them.
Sorry about the breakup, but great that you're out of debt!
The only reason not to keep the 0% and card tart is if you aren't disciplined or organised enough, and would spend it or make a mistake and pay interest. You'll know yourself better than anyone else if that might be a problem.I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. Ah so that's why you're daytona Nev eh? Before Christmas I was sheltering from the rain in some services and met a guy who was running in a 955. We were talking about bikes and stuff and he let me have a sit on his to see if it was too tall for me. It was a beautiful piece of kit but unfortunatly I'm a bit too short and weak in the leg for something that big.
Disposable income, oohh do you know how much bling I'd buy if I had that. I already have a long list of 'wants' and can't wait until my debt free date.
I know it'll be tempting to bling it up a bit so set yourself a yearly budget on how much you're allowed to spend on it. It's way too sensible I know but you're probably better of not getting silly again on credit cards. Hopefully now they're paid off you don't even carry them in your wallet any more, don't tempt fate.0
