Do I need original Paperwork?

Hi there,
I took a loan out with Natwest in 2007-2010, I will be honest, I can't find the original paperwork and I can't remember the exact amount of the loan however I do know PPI was included.
Do I need the original paperwork? I have phoned Natwest today and they said it would take 4-5 weeks to send me copies and that also they couldn't tell me any more details about my loan as they don't keep it once it has finished which I found strange and I don't particularly want to wait that long. They have a link on their website which says you can complain by telephone however I am a bit wary of calling them in case they say I don't have enough details.
Can anybody give me any advice?
Many Thanks in advance

You can make a complaint without the original paperwork, assuming you can remember enough about the sale and clearly explain the reason why you feel it was mis-sold.0

It depends on personal preference, I usually make complaints in writing but others prefer the telephone.gashalasha7 wrote: »Is it best to phone them or write to them?
The advantage with writing is I can put all the facts in a logical order, proof read and make sure it's correct, keep a copy and feel sure I've not missed anything out.0 -

You don't need to wait for the paperwork to start the ball rolling.gashalasha7 wrote: »True, my only problem with that is Natwest have said 4-5 weeks until I receive the paperwork!!
If you can remember how the PPI was sold to you, and you're certain that it was a mis-sale, you can write and tell them.
If you're a little uncertain about dates / amounts then don't include them in your letter. Instead, keep it simple. Tell them you are unhappy about the way the PPI was sold to you and would like a refund of the premiums.
When you make a complaint, the first stage will be for NatWest to acknowledge it and confirm they are investigating. That will take some time.
Is there something specific you want to see before making a complaint?0 -

Only the amounts, I can't remember the specific amount of the loan0 -
You don't actually need the amount to complain about something being mis-sold. They will be able to check that themselves if necessary.gashalasha7 wrote: »Only the amounts, I can't remember the specific amount of the loan
The value really comes in later, if you 'win' your complaint. It's used to work out how much refund / interest you are entitled to.
By the time the complaint reaches that stage, it's likely to be well over 4 weeks so the information from NatWest has plenty of time to arrive.0
