Maplin have a Seagate 3Tb external drive discounted by £50 for £129.99 http://www.maplin.co.uk/3tb-freeagent-goflex-desk-external-drive-476961
Quidco (and I'd imagine the other cashback sites) offer 7% cashback for Maplin. Pay with an Egg Money or Capital One 1% cashback card as well, and the total you pay is £119.59
I think that's the cheapest I've seen for a 3Tb drive

How about 2 x 2TB for £100? http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/2-x-2tb-samsung-f4eg-hdd-s-99-59-scan/960218If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

Maplins is the last place I would buy anything from, they are overpriced. How about the following (same price at both eBuyer and Amazon for the Hitachi both with free delivery):

The hotdeals link to scan.co.uk seems to be for the hard disks without enclosures, which would add to the cost, although it's something I'll look at in future for replacing drives in RAID sets, so thanks for that.
The Hitachi drive looks interesting, although it looks like someone's sat on it, so I'd have to find somewhere to hide it away.
The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 3Tb on Ebuyer - which is usually my first port of call for hardware - is about the same price as the standard price at Maplins, so I'm not sure it's overpriced, was the CNET editor's choice last year, and is still their highest rated external HD (http://reviews.cnet.com/external-hard-drives/seagate-freeagent-goflex-desk/4505-3190_7-34139135.html?!!!!!mncol;lst;4)0 -
I got my 2tb WD Elements for £52.95 delivered, so paying more than double the price for an extra 1TB seems a difficult sell.
Unless you have a specific reason for a 3TB hard drive, then buying hard drives should be done with the following in mind:- Reliable brand
- Your requirements
- Best price/GB

Its risky paying so much for 3Tb single disk - if it fails as disks do - money down the drain.
Much rather pick up 1tb for £41-ish (works out same price as for 3 - plus prices come down and you can get the 2tb cheaper later).
Seagate ones - they do develop bad sectors easily I have noted (especially cheaper models).0
