Switching from Eon Fixed Online 8 to EDF Fixed S@ver 2

After a lot of confusion, head-scratching & complicated spreadsheets, I've opted to switch to EDF. God this is hard work! Who ever thought competition was a good thing? It's another full-time job to sort it all! Just house & car insurance to sort now...
So far as I can understand it, it is _impossible_ to have a straight-forward changeover date from the Eon fixed tariff to EDF's.
After waiting an age on EDF's 0800 helpline I got through to a very helpful (?Polish) chap called Woody who very patiently tried to explain it to me. This man deserves a bonus!
I switched via moneysupermarket. He says he will re-start my application so that the end of the 12-day cooling-off period will fall on 2-July-11, so when they contact Eon my contract with Eon will be complete and I should not incur cancellation charges.
Then I'll have to wait 4-8 weeks for my new EDF contract to start. Evidently they have to give Eon 10 working days notice for gas and 17 working days notice for electricity. So there will be an interim period when Eon will charge me a lot more. Is there a better tariff for this interim period other than the automatic one? I have no idea.
I suppose it is possible for this to be more complicated, but then that would really be going some! I'll keep you posted. Please correct me if I have got anything wrong.

I have received two (duplicate) letters from EDF "as confirmation that we're not proceeding" with my contract this does not fill me with confidence.
At 8:30am, I tried to ring EDF on 0800 056 8868. After quarter of an hour the irritating music stopped and I was treated to some mumbling voices in the background and then I was cut off. At least they didn't tell me my call was important to them. Clearly it wasn't.
A few things in Ebico's favour: I can understand the bills, I can pay by direct transfer under my control & they answer the 'phones.0 -
After another 15-20 mins on the helpline I was eventually connected to Sam in Hove. I have to say, after the long wait on the phone, the staff are very helpful & patient.
He confirmed that my original application is "in cool-off" and that a new application has
been raised & he's given me new numbers.
I wonder now whether I will loose my moneysupermarket cash-back? This is all such complicated hard work. Off course, all this is just one switch really, but there will be two on EDF's computer...0 -
I suspect you will indeed lose your cashback as the initial application is not going through.0

@vuvuzela: complicated isn't it?0

there does seem to be quite a number of `horror` stories of ppl using cash back sites and changes failing , read one on here who had the details from one cashback place to say he was changing - but in fact never did as they didnt do it properly - and was on standard tarrif for a year with the original supplier! and dont forget teh `free` wine which in fact costs you £60 for0

I have received a letter from EDF to say my start date will be 18-July-11. The letter only asks for an electricity reading. No news about gas. I rang the helpline & after 2 tries and waiting for ages got through to a pleasant chap who says gas will start on 26-July-11, next week.0

@HalloweenJack: given how complicated all this is, I can understand the horror stories!
I haven't tried the "free wine" offer, but I did manage to get £30 "cash-back" credited to my account. It did take months and an email reminder from me though...0 -
Now when I log in to my account, I see boxes for both gas & mater readings, so I have put both in.
I can't see how to view my previous reading which I submitted to EDF. Eon lets you view all your previous readings.0
