windows firewall is fine, a 3rd party one will cause more problems than they solve and slow the system down further.!!

I think that they mean Vista SP1.
I'm not sure that a mobile broadband dongle would work with Windows XP SP1.
If really XP SP1, then it's time for a clean install.
Machine details; brand and model number etc.
Not confused, it is XP. However you are partly right. The new dongle (on the back of its packaging) states XP3, Vista or 7 required to run it. We tried my dongle earlier (an older model) and it worked fine.
Cheers vodafone website :mad: for not stating on website which system it needed! I had earlier googled for the model to see if it could work on XP and theres nothing out there anywhere telling you that it must have XP3 minimum!
Should of gone to a shop

I've heard the windows firewall is not up to scratch on this version of Vista?
Anyway, my advice is a clean install and update to SP3.
Make and model of machine?
Also, did you check to see if any of the networks had 3G coverage in their location? Any particular reason why they chose Vodafone?0
