Leaving gas meter in new downstairs toilet

Hi, I currently have the gas meter in the garage which is joined to the house. I want to convet the corner of the garage to a downstairs toilet, knocking a new door from the hallway into the new toilet.
my question is doing this will meen thaty the gas meter is in the new toilet on the wall, I plan on boxing this in and should work out space wise all ok. moving this gas meter is gonna be in the region of about £900, so I would prefer to leave it where it is and box it in.
Would this comply with current building regs?

Kind regards.

Your biggest problem will be discerning if there is a gas leak.

You can box a gas meter in as long as there is unrestricted access to the emergency control valve as well as the meter itself, and no risk of build up of gas in a confined space.
At no point can you allow or cause any damage to the meter or pipes.

Why would this be my biggest problem?

Because if there was a leak the gas board would move the meter for you.

This happened to me as the gas board have to maintain the pipe to the meter, when I had a leak they moved the meter to the front of the house and ran a new pipe in my neighbour was peeved as he had to pay for his to be done.

Then this is not a problem, if there was a gas leak later down the line then I would get it moved for free, excellent?
