childcare grant and childcare vouchers?

Hi all,
does anybody know if I suppose to declare that my partner receives childcare vouchers at work? It is a salary sacrifice scheme so his net income is actually lower (his gross as well as he gets taxed after they take it off)
It just seems rather odd you could get a childcare vouchers, get them off your net income and this wouldnt be counted at all.
Thanks for the answers.

Hi there
By "childcare grant" do you mean childcare tax credits? If so, you can only claim tax credits for childcare which isn't paid for with childcare vouchers. When you fill in your tax credit claim form, you should declare your full childcare costs less the amount of childcare vouchers you receive. It doesn't matter whether the childcare vouchers are provided by salary sacrifice or as a benefit on top of salary - either way HMRC view them as being provided by the employer.
Some parents are better off opting out of childcare vouchers and claiming tax credits instead, so it's worth checking on HMRC's tax credit calculator or phoning their helpline on 0845 300 3900.
Hope that helps!

Hi Alison,
no I mean Childcare grant from student finance. Thanks0 -
They would be 'Other income' if they are not included in the Gross earnings, surely. Why not call and ask Student Finance?"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0
