The great thing about Asdas APG IS....

Just discovered that we are having a local Asda open up in 2 weeks so I will also be taking advantage of their vastly superior price guarantee.
Having used tescos for some time, I get frustrated when whoopsies are also compared which is extremely unfair.
Just whiling away the sleepless hours just reading up on the Ts & Cs, I discovered this wonderful promise:
4. Fresh items which are purchased on "Whoops" in Asda will not be compared as these are store specific discounts on damaged or short date coded items. Non fresh items that are purchased on "Whoops" will be compared at the original price.
Isn't that wonderful?! No more separating the shopping at the checkout! Phew!
Another great thing is that whilst tescos seem to be skulking in the shadows with their JTD offer, no longer promoting it, mentioning it or even sending out emails as promised (customers have te re enter till receipt details to get them to cough one up!), Asda are promoting theirs like mad as they are very confident in their claim to be 10% cheaper guaranteed.
They have even gone to the trouble of making an iPhone app just for the APG!
Well done Asda. We love you!

Just thOught of yet another reason:
They use the independant mysupermarket to compare prices against all the other listed supermarkets on there.
Not like Tesco only comparing with Asda with a comparison site no one can access!
Yep, Asda you get my vote!:)
Ooh, and another thing...
Asdas APG can be also used in tescos too whereas you are stuck to spending tescos JTD in tescos. Boo

Gordons gin 1L
Price Comparison
tescos £19.49£17.00 - Valid until: 21/06/2011
Asda £20.97£20.47
sainsburys £19.49£15.59 - Valid until: 28/06/2011
ocado £19.49£16.49 - Valid until: 21/06/2011
Morrisons crunched to £14 (also price matched if you read Asdas ts & cs!!)
That's £6 APG plus a further 10%
Anyone else want a go at finding a few?:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Lol, well good luck with it.
I think it's swings and roundabouts really. You have to buy at least 8 comparable items in Asda whereas in Tesco you can get a voucher for just one for example.
I agree the whoopsies are a pain, but easy to just pop through self serve as a separate shop.
As for the fact Asda will only take Asda vouchers but Tesco's will take vouchers from all the major supermarkets, surely it's 'boo' to Asda for not being as flexible as Tesco's? Surely it's not their fault they will accept vouchers from other supermarkets but the other supermarkets will only accept their own is it?0 -

Hi,
I thought this too but in fact the Ts & Cs state:
For a comparison to be made, your shop must contain at least 8 different items, of which at least 1 should be comparable against that of any of the competitor's named above.
Makes perfect sense. 1 item has to be comparable because well, ahem, there would be no comparison
Minimum of 7 additional items would be easy if you buy from their basics range which do not seem to compare on mysupermarket as they are own brands.
Tesco seem to have stopped stocking the basic value items such as foil and large pack loo rolls anyway.
I like that much better!
Regarding Asda APG being used in Tesco, that is great as I am only chipping away at Tescos profits not Asdas! I would prefer to do that as I feel that Ts are the biggest swindlers in retail. Asda is a very good competitor that keeps them on their toes.:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Ooooo!!!
Just saw another FANTASTIC reason to start shopping there using APG:

Now as we know, Tesco always like to copycat potential marketing campaigns of leading supermarkets so watch this space....... Hhhmmmm!:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Sorry, you're right, I shouldn't have used the word comparable.

I suppose each to his own really. I agree with the competitive side, competition is healthy & good for the consumer.
It does seem 'fashionable' to moan about Tesco's, but to be honest they've always served me well. I quite like Sainsbury's & Morrisons for some things, but in general my shopping always comes out cheaper at Tesco's. I also much prefer the taste of their own brand goods compared to Asda...I rarely buy branded, only when on offer at a good price.
I don't get the 'swindling' aspect either. They are basically a business and as far as I can see, all supermarkets play the same tricks with regards to pricing, offers etc. CS at my local Tesco's is brilliant, & dtd is not to be sneezed at. On the other hand, the CS at my local Morrisons is awful, so I rarely bother with it.
I suppose I also feel a little uncomfortable with Asda as it is American owned so profits are syphoned across the pond. (I don't want to be sending my hard earned money across to the States.:D)In fact I believe Walmart takes the biggest share of profits worldwide, with Tesco's coming in 3rd.
Given the choice, I'd prefer to chip away at the profits being sent overseas rather than those of a basically British company.
I also believe Tesco's pay their staff a better hourly rate, which again I would prefer to support.jumblejack wrote: »

Lol, like in-store dtd, accepting vouchers from competitors etc?

Why what basics items are you buying? Most of the ASDA Smart Price items I buy do compare with their Tesco or Sainsburys equivalents. It's why I buy them at ASDA so I can get a another 10% off.
Actually the great thing about the APG is that you can target your shopping against either Tesco or Sainsburys and get another 10% off whatever's on special offer in those stores. (I know you can do the same for Morrisons as well, but they don't put their prices online.)0 -

Agreed. ASDA plays it's own little marketing tricks just like Tesco. For one thing it's fairly notorious for putting a product on 'rollback' and marking the price down from (say) £2.69 to £2.00, and then marking the price back up to £2.68 soon afterwards whilst continuing with the 'rollback' claim.
And funnily enough, the latest Grocer 33 has its basket costing £66.72 at ASDA and £66.19 at Tesco, making Tesco 53p cheaper even before you take into account the clubcard points.0 -
Thanks Antrobus.
I haven't yet had the chance to use APG as there are NO local stores until the 29th! I have carefully read their ts & cs today though to try and familiarise myself with them.
As it uses mysupermarket, I find that when own brands are selected all other stores come up as NA in the results. I wonder why the APG results includes them if mysupermarket doesn't?! Weird!
I know that they compare with tescos JTD though but they do not use mysupermarket.
If the value range does compare then that's pretty cool!
If anyone is using the price guarantee to their advantage, please share.
It really has been largely overlooked and ignored by MSE as a whole.
Cheers:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

I have been using the Asda Price Guarantee for a while. It takes a bit of work, but I find the best way to do it is to put you shopping list into Mysupermarket before you go to Asda, and then make two lists, one with everything that is the same price or cheaper in Tescos and one with the things that are cheaper in Asda. Then as you shop keep it seperate and pay seperately. It works it out on the total basket cost, so doing it that way you get the best possible return.0
