Listing high value item - don't want to be conned!

As tech says - a reseller using a courier is the way to go. Plenty of them out there. and should cost around a tenner at that weight.
I've also sold loads of high value stuff on ebay. Make sure seller protection says eligible, and post tracked with online confirmation. Most couriers do this.
As has been said, online confirmation WITH signature if over £150.0 -
If only all scams were as easy to spot as these two.
Love the response from the selllers - who went to a lot of effort to send them their 'new' laptops.

Also check carefully the list of exclusions in the insurance as some carriers exclude a lot of items. I might be tempted to splash out of RM Special Delivery at just over 20 pounds as I have found them to be ultra reliable.0

In the last 2 years, I've tried selling 2 different mobile phones on Gumtree (because of ebay fees).
Just listed the second one, but all I'm getting is spam people with broken english asking for a paypal invoice.
Am I doing something wrong?
Does this always happen on gumtree, or is there some settings you can use to block these scammers?
I've stated that I won't sent outside the UK, and I prefer cash on collection.
Any advice?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -

Gumtree attracts these scammers like a magnet and there is no way of stopping them apart from keep reporting them to Gumtree.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have used Gumtree numerous occasions and just ignore the dodgy emails and its easier for me as no postage and let them come to collect and pay you the cash plus its free with no picture0

Then I would bet you are getting less for your sales than you would on ebay. I had 10 PS3's for sale last year. Advertised on ebay, gumtree and loot. Seven sold in two weeks on ebay, the rest off ebay to people who missed the BIN. The "offers" from the other sites were laughable.0

I have sold lots on ebay over the years and have sold for prices ranging from 99p for a DVD up to £250 for laptops and gaming consoles. I have never had many problems but the odd ones I have had, have all been for really cheap items, ie up to £10!.
This is just my experience and I know from reading this forum that people have problems with expensive items, I may just be lucky on ebay.0 -
Here is the best advice I can give to keep you as safe as possible eBay/Paypal have the final say in any dispute
1. Only accept Paypal
2. Only send item once payment is received and cleared fully.
3 Send item recorded delivery with Royal Mail insurance
1) Paypal is not the safest way for any seleler to receive payment, however as it is a required option for all sellers it is the one the buyers prefer.
2) Cleared fully? AS long as it is not an echeque then it is cleared the moment the paypal money hits the sellers account, although fo course that does not mean it cannot be reclaimed
3) This worries me a great deal, please I know you are a newbie but you really really must protect yourself on ebay and that means understanding the postal requirements and even how Royal Mail works. Recorded is absolutely NOT the service to use here as it only covers up to £46 of loss and is nOT a tracked service.
It is really a good idea to run through the basic requirements for paypal seller protection and the basics re postage are here:

A great courier for high value items is worldwide parcel services, their insurance actually pays out as long as you use DPD0
