Please could I request that someone could explain how SP have arrived at these figures as many people are quoting increases far higher than the afore mentioned amounts.

    Magic!

    Next question?

The resolution to this problem won't come until the directors of these companies are held legally and personally accountable for their actions.

What is lacking is the political will to take on the energy market and face it down.

Basically, they can pick and choose the figures to make it sound better. I don't know the exact wording they used but there's probably loads of people who never bother to change their tarriff/supplier, they're already paying way over the odds so their increase is probably minimal.

I switched between OES 11 and OES 14 and made a saving on the pre-increased prices so there's that too.

I heard that 9 out of 10 statistics figures are made up on the spot...

The rules for quoting average increases are set by OFGEM so that all suppliers use the same formula. You need to bear in mind that this covers various tariffs and payment methods and therefore is reflective of the number of customers per payment type that any single supplier has. As an example if a supplier has a high percentage of PPM customers compared to credit and increases PPM by a low percentage then this will pull down the overall average increase.

No, it's because the real statistic is far too inaccurate and based on incomplete data and therefore misleading. The presenter of an argument must therefore give you a much clearer set of figures that will help you reach the "right" conclusions.

Some people just don't appreciate that marketing people are really helpful people who don't want to confuse you with raw figures.;)

Good grief, 10 posts in response to a simple question and no one has given the OP the answer to the question yet

broxis11 - the answer to your question actually lies within your title ;) The figures quoted are an average; the figures quoted by individuals are a specific circumstance.

In specific answer to your question, the figures are:
Based on an average [of a GB ScottishPower Gas & Electricity (Dual Fuel) domestic customer with annual mains gas usage of 16,500kWh and annual Standard Rate electricity usage of 3,300kWh.] across all of Britain and across monthly Direct Debit, Prepayment and Quarterly payment methods.
