A mouse outside at the bottom of the garden is not really an issue that needs catching unless you are trying to save on supermarket shopping?

You can put poison down but I guess if you don't want to kill it then you've only got to worry if it gets in the house.

Our house backs onto fields and quite often we see them outside but we don't worry until they are inside, when this happens we buy sticky pads from the poundshop and they get stuck on them (sorry for people that don't like that) but anyway we caught 14 in 2 days a few years ago.

Use a humane trap (cylinder with trap door) best bait peanut butter. And release captive elsewhere. Romans eat doormice-delicacy.
