CW Insulation & vents

I've just had a local, fairly well regarded, company out to quote for CW Insulation.

In my front room I have a gas fire. There is a vent in the floor (about 4" x 8") and an underfloor airbrick on the outside wall, the combination of which I assume provides the necessary throughflow of air into the room.

I was told that floor vents are no longer acceptable (legally, I think) and that a vent will need to be put through the outside wall. They won't install the CWI without putting the vent in.

Is this true or are they having me on?

I dont know for sure, but I know when I had a flueless gas fire fitted few years ago, I had to have a special vent fitted into an external wall.

For your question, I'd phone your local building control at the Council who will be able to confirm either way for you. They'll know the facts & wont be biased either way.
