british gas payment in advance

I'm with British Gas and las year paid a year in advance for gas as it was a cheaper tariff. They have sent me a bill for this years gas in advance but when came to pay on phone they are telling me that this method has been stopped. When I asked why they had sent me the bill they couldnt really answer and said it was a mistake. I had heard that they were still keeping this method for customers already on it but not taking on any new customers. I,m really confused now and was wondering if anybody else has paid in advance for their gas with them??? BG dont seem to know what is going on themselves and even told me they were looking on the internet!!!!!
