Help with wireless keyboard/mouse

This thing is driving me mad - new pc with wireless mouse & keyboard. The battery in the mouse died, and we replaced it. It would not connect at all and we looked for the user manual- which we seem to have lost.
With a lot of faffing and screaming I have got it working. ( pressed every button in sight ).
Can I change this over to an ordinary keyboard and or mouse ? I cant go through this again! - the batteries are non-rechargeable and will go again and I'm dreading it.

Yes, you should just be able to swap it for a standard wired keyboard and mouse. Just check whether they are USB or the older PS/2 round connector and get a matching replacement.

But if you can find the make and model number of the existing wireless ones there are almost certainly instructions via your favourite internet search facility. Usually it's just a button on the underside of the device, or sometimes one there plus one on the receiver which is plugged into the PC.

Ok many thanks. Found a user manual now and have downloaded it. Think we know what we did wrong. But its an awful faff, having to enter pin numbers and let them pair up etc. Godsake

You just push the button on the bottom of the mouse, push the button on the bottom of the keyboard and push the button on the receiver. Thats all there should be to it.

Is that what youre doing (sorry if that sounds patronising, it isnt meant to be) i had exactly the same problem when i got my
first one i had no idea what i was doing:D

Make sure you use good or rechargeable batteries.

Ah Ok - that probably means it's Bluetooth-based. Yes, it is a faff, and often confusing about what four-digit code to put in where. Don't lose those instructions now!

Put it in the box, with your receipt, and put the box in the loft, you will know exactly where they are and that they are altogether,
I do this with every boxed thing I buy and its so much easier.
