potato say 10p each
Cheap cheese is around £5 kg standard slice is 25gr so 12.5p on that 2p slice of bread
Tin of beans around 30p on offer might get 3 portions
I think the 22p breakfast looks a bit low
Cheese on toast low for two slices
Lidl bread, 47p/loaf
Random bag of Asda spuds £1.37 for 2.5Kg (can buy cheaper)
Asda own brand beans, low sugar/salt, pack of four 99p. 3 portions/tin.
Cheese is £5/Kg, but you don't need a lot if you grate it.0 -
One thing we don't know about the OP is their location. Location can count for a lot regarding access to things. e.g. where I live there's no Tesco - and even the Asda is dinky (they don't even have their own cheap range). There's also no 'local fruit market' here.
I like it when people can give a town/region, as others close to them can be really specific about places/resources, rather than giving generic answers that might not work for them (e.g. CostCo, Makro, Netto, Home Bargains - none of which exist in vast areas of the country).0 -

.
I wasn't going to go into to much detail but the above is a valid point so thought I would expand somewhat.
I live (at the moment but I have to move often) 5 miles from the nearest bus stop in a small village that has only a pub and post office. That bus then does a 25 mile trip to the town centre (starts at 7am and last bus is 6.30pm) I either have to walk to the bus stop or hitch or beg a lift etc and when I do I take my granny trolley with me so that if I get stuck I can at least carry my things without breaking my arms.
I have to do this trip to sign on (only till Sept as on con jsa )so I try and get as much into one trip as possible..IE agency, sign on, shopping, job hunting, libary, I also do the boots run for other people at the sites and although they pay for their items I get to keep the points and that gets me a face cream or cleanser once every 6 months.
I use local hairdressers when they has new staff in or new staff trying out cos that gets me a free cut..You can also try your local collage etc, Have had a total make over with cut / colour etc for nothing before now as they wanted to try a new way of doing things.
I visit car boot sales every now and again and that keeps me in clothes as you can get a load for very little and with some work they can become like new.
I don't however add my dog / cat food into the spend (and before anyone say's anything, it aint their fault I was made redundant and I am not about to pass them on to someone else when I have had them for years)
A lot of things are possible if you think outside of the box ....wow I sound just like my old boss.....cough cough !!!!** cough cough
But what I mean is that if you haven't got a job all you have is time and there is no reason why you can not plan your job finding in with other things and the op said they had a local libary so can use the internet for checking local hair dressers / car boot sales / food markets etcThere is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

Actually - the cheapest cheese going at the moment seems to be Sainsb*rys Basics Feta cheese (at 50p per 200 grams - therefore £2.50 per kg).0 -
Anyone else in the same circumstances might have the same attitude. It's too easy to look from the outside and tell them something's amiss with their attitude, when from their perspective the world treats them like they're a piece of dogsh!t stuck under their shoe.Sorry OP, I think a big part of the problem is your attitude.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0 -

To be fair though it is all down to attitude, it is possible to live on the amount the OP has to spend per month and more then one person has tried to help.
What the OP does with that help is down to them but it is clear to me from the replies so far that more then one person has been in the same circumstances and some still are.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

You can save money going for those haircuts, yo could get it done for free.
If you have a college near to where you live that teaches hairdressing give them a ring they're always looking for guinea pigs.

Location, location, location. If I were to visit all the shops above. I know it's only 3 Aldi, Lidl and ASDA it would take most of the day or I could just visit the local Morrisons which would take me 2 hours and cost a few pennies more. I have near me the following and no car of my own so need to walk, get public transport, get taxi or borrow a car.PasturesNew wrote: »One thing we don't know about the OP is their location. -Sainsburys Local .6 mile west
-Local newsagent .7 mile east
-Morrisons 1 mile north
-Asian supermarket 1.6 mile north west
-Tesco 2 mile west
-Asda 2.1 mile west bus goes here
-Iceland 2.2 mile west £2 parking refund on Asda shop
-Friday/Saturday Market 2.3 miles west £2 parking
-Sainsburys 2.4 mile west
-Farmfoods, Home Bargains and Wilkinson 2.5 mile west £2 parking
-Aldi 2.7 mile west
-Lidl 2.8 mile north west
-Netto 12.8 mile south west
It's quite a reasonable selection but most of the time I end up at Sainsburys Local or Morrisons and buy just enough so I can carry it home without the need of a taxi which is £3.50 if I've bought too much. A return bus fare to town is £3.40 on an hourly bus service or £3.80 on the every 20 minute service. Or a taxi is £4 from town if I've bought too much for the bus. I typically walk or get bus to town and get taxi back.
edited to add: due to all the additional walking I've done recently I've gone through a pair of shoes 6 months quicker than I would have otherwise and that cost me an extra £26 this year. Only 50p a week so not too much but needs to be included in my budget. Along with all the other clothes on which I spend about £5 per week and they are only the essentials. New socks, underwear, shoes, shirts, trousers. No fancy brand name stuff it's mostly George at Asda, Primark or Matalan. You can't go 2 years without needing to replace something.:footie:

Absolutely, but we have all had times when life has dealt us a bad hand, so we can say from experience that the only way that things are going to get better is if as individuals we make a change - no one can do that for us.
I have just been out for dinner, and whilst sat in a quiet restaurant a man came in and shouted 'Hello, I'm here!'. He got a few odd looks, but then people actually said hello back and we had a bit of a group conversation (Brits abroad!). Whilst I am not suggesting that the OP walks into an interview with the same gusto, it shows the influence an individual can have just through having a positive attitude.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Perhaps Op you could have a look on Freecycle for a bike, that will help save bus and taxi fares.
I have a carrier and panniers on mine so you should be able to carry most of what you buy.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
