Rubbish drivers license?

My friend has a provisional driving license that he uses for ID, But the picture of it is so poorly done. It looks like they lost his picture and drew it in pencil from memory, therefore it looks fake, He always gets trouble from places that he needs to use it as they think it's fake and often gets turned away because of it. He's had it for a couple of years for is starting to get fed up with it. Do you think it's unreasonable for him to ask the DVLA to redo it?
I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.

All driving licence pictures look awful. My other half looks like an Eastern European gangster. Under water. Christ knows what they use to produce the cards - some sort of Fisherprice kit by the looks of it.

He can ask - they'll probably charge him a billion pounds or something.

  • It doesn't even look like they used his picture though, just drawn it in pencil lol. True we all like hideous in our pictures but this is just weird.

I suppose your friend could just reapply with a new photo, but they'd charge him a few quid for the privilege.

Given their reputation I very much doubt the DVLA will process a new one for free.

If your friend is having trouble using it as ID might I suggest applying for Validate card or something similar so that using the driver's licence for that purpose is unnecessary?

Tell him to grow a beard, or get a sex change or something. Then he'll have to get his picture changed. Still won't be free though - although I think they do reduce the fee to a few hundred thousand.

Tell him to get his backside into gear and pass his test so that he can get a shiny new pink licence!

He'd still have to pay to change the photo though

I thought you could get a new photo free when the licence is updated.

Even if not, he should still hurry up and pass :p

You can get the name and address changed free of charge when you pass, but they charge to change the photo, I think it's around a tenner

    £20 for a renew.

If you have a new chip passport you can apply online and they will use your current passport picture.... quicker and less hassle but.. Depends if you are happy with your

Hideous (most of them are) passport picture!
