What to do with cake crumbs

Hi - I've had a cake disaster. I made a fruit cake but forgot to turn the oven down. So now I have a cake which has a rock hard and burnt outside, but some tasty crumbly cake in the middle. Seems a shame to throw it all away.
Anyone have any ideas about what to do with some crumbly fruit cake apart from a trifle?

thanks squeaky, though it would have to be crumbs and custard! The crust is really thick and it is only like the core of the cake which is edible - you cannot slice it. It was a cake for work, so I was really thinking of a way to recycle it into another cake - I should have said in the first place.:)0

I had a recipe once for fruitcake fudge - lost it now:rolleyes: but the general idea was to melt some chocolate and golden syrup and stir in the cake crumbs. Spread in a shallow tin and chill. Cut into squares. Scoff:D
Or, you can add cake crumbs to a basic muffin mix.
Or, how about crumbling it into a bowl and dousing with sherry or brandy. cover with custard and whipped cream. add a tin of mandarins too if you like.
or, try this recipe for fruit cake cookies
4 oz butter/marge (¼ cup)
7 oz brown sugar(1 cup)
1 egg
5 oz flour(1 cup)
½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
3 oz oats(1 cup)
cake crumbs to fill a jug up to the 12 fl oz mark(1½ cups)
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy and pale.
Add egg and beat well.
Sift flour, salt and baking powder. add to creamed mixture.
Stir in oats and cake crumbs.
drop teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on greased baking trays.
Bake at 180 C for 8-10 mins.
Makes about 3 doz.0 -

I never ceased to be amazed at the inventiveness of the partipants on OS.
Thank you0 -
Why not make ice cream with the crumbs? Whip up double cream maybe add a little dash of whisky or rum - not too much or it won't set. Then put into an ice cream maker.0

Ooh that's a good idea Kittykat :T , maybe if you quickly fried the crumbs in some butter first (like you do with breadcrumbs for brown bread ice cream) ? or is that guilding the lily ?0
