The sister in law lives abroad but is insured on the car when she comes back, the OP has their own car so they won't be the sole driver.
It says in post 1 that the OP is now the sole driver.
I interpreted this as the sister is no longer driving the car.
Perhaps we need the OP to clarify whether the sister is still driving the car or not.
They'll be an occasional driver then they take their parents out and the sister in law will still need to be drive it when they come back.
I think we ned clarification here of who is the MAIN driver.
oh and you can have a named driver as the main driver; it's one of the options when you go through confused.com
You can't if you go direct through Sheilas wheels website (I've done it recently).
I did not mean to imply that you cannot do it anywhere in the market.
To clarify what I meant was that it won't necessarily be possible with the current insurer (to be both main and named).

ah i missed that bit.. that's the problem half the time, you reply to something and then things move on and you forget what was initially said when replying to something different..

which would then lead over to; selling one car and using the other.

The only problem with that is the parents are not independent if circumstances change.
So currently the OP (son) does all the driving and daughter does none.
Circumstances could change so they are more independent with their own car.

Still we need the OP to answer that rather than guessing.

Right just to clarify. I ( a Mrs not a Mr!) look after my parents. I drive their car which is in my sister in law's name an insured in her name also( my Dad always owned his own cars but when my brother took him get a different one a few years ago it was put in sister in law's name- perhaps because my Dad was then in his eighties). It is my sister not sister in law who comes home from abroad and drives the car for a few days each month. The rest of the time I drive it on their business. My Mum does not drive and Dad cant see well and has Dementia so no possibility he will drive again.
I would rather keep my own car as it is bought and paid for and I like to use it when I am not working. Another suggestion is maybe to insure it in my sister's name ( the one who lives abroad ) with me as named driver.
Have I made it clear now. Thanks

    It's probably getting over complicated.
It's your fathers car, but your sister in law is the registered keeper, driven solely/mainly by you, but may also be driven by your sister who is resident abroad, and has no uk address?

I wouldn't think you would get a mirrored ncd, but you could try with a broker.

The problem with this is that you are the main driver but not the policyholder.
You MUST declare yourself as main driver because you are and anything else would be not properly representing the risks to the insurer.

Not all companies will allow named drivers to be the main driver (example :sheilas wheels).
That doesn't mean you can't do it. I'm sure you can, but I'm just warnnig you might limit your choice and less competition generally means higher prices.

A further complication for you sister (the one who lives abroad) is that any accidents will be on her policy so it will affect her if there are any accidents.

Why do you want it in her name rather than yours?
Is it that you can't use your NCD twice?

You're be very lucky to get insurance for someone living abroad..
It would be a lot easier to transfer the V5 into the op's name, and then get an insurer to mirror the ncd, and add the sister on as a named driver, if she still has a uk licence.

Ok, you cannot do it online as their declaration says:
    I confirm that:

    • I am the main driver of the car

So if you go through a comparison site, then comapnies like this may not be available to you via the on-line method.

Right. Am I understanding this right. Does mirroring my NCD mean I can use it twice? Not sure of the status of my sister's UK licence. I think I will contact my own insurers Swinton tommorow to see if they will cover me and my sister as a named driver. Will report back.
