I have got my printer and mobile broadband dongle plugged into my PC using a USB hub and want to know if I can leave them attatched or if I need to unplug everything before I shut down the computer. I have XP home.

Also, try to leave the printer on as they use a fair bit of ink each time they are switched on, most printers will go in to standby after a while

  • I've seen several USB hubs which have gone wrong and started drawing too much current from the PC. This results in the USB ports on the PC overheating and sometimes failing. I have seen two occasions (though many years ago) where this resulted in a fire Its only been a handful of cases out of many thousands, but it can happen. Be wary. USB hubs tend to be cheap devices, often not made to the standards of normal home electrical gear.
