Not by tools in the domestic armoury.
FORGET hole saws, you would wreck one in 10 seconds.
HSS hole saws will be fineHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I'd avoid it if possible but if I had to do it the tool of choice would be a carbide grit hole saw, as others have said, given decent tools machining cast iron is easy, i suspect the problem is getting a neat hole in the enamel0

Many thanks for giving me your expertise. The bath has been enamelled underneath the top surface area.
My greatest problem was the very confined space that I had to work in. The toilet has been added after the bath and surrounding wooden panelling had been fitted, and not being the slimmest of the family the task was difficult. One suggestion was to remove the toilet, which I was assured not to be a major job and then carry out the work of fitting the taps and tails. I backed away from that idea because we have a number of females in our household and removing their throne was not an option for me.
I have settled for running the water pipes in another direction and fitting two taps insteaad of the old monoblock into a boxed unit with mosaic tiling covering it.
May I say a big thank you to everyone for their help.
regards Bob
