Few days in London with family

We are doing a few days in london at a travellodge with the kids as they have never been before and we wanted to show them the sites. As its years since I have been can anyone give me any tips on savings that can be made for instance day tickets or similar for tube and buses as we will leave car at hotel. Other things to look out for? Good cheap restaurants?

Thanks for any help!

  • There is lots to do for free in London. For a start, I believe kids travel free on the underground (they do at weekends, not sure about weekdays). You will also find it's more walkable that you might imagine. You can cover Covent Garden, Leiceister Square, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, Westminster area (Abbey and Houses of Parliament) and across Westminster Bridge to the London Eye easily on foot, unless you have mobility issues.

The main museums are free - Natural History, Science Museum, Museum of London (near St Pauls), National Maritime Museum. All of these are fantastic for kids.

Don't know what you would define as a cheap restaurant. I thought that the Rainforest Cafe was very poor value for money and Maxwell's in Covent Garden was great. You should be able to eat reasonably in Chinatown. MacDonalds is everywhere. You will probably find that most restaurants in the tourist areas are big chains rather than fine dining.

    Have fun.
