The £100 only has to stay in overnight to trigger the sending of the debit card. It might disappear for 48 hours as it takes a few days for the account to be fully active. If this happens, once the money shows back up in the account, you will be able to use it as normal. It's just an anomaly on new accounts, it happened with mine.
Debt free and staying that way!
  • Did you switch your direct debits. I recently opened a Halifax account too. Said no to switching, then they offered £50 so I moved all direct debits to Halifax. Money already paid in my new account. Yes I was asked to put in £100 too.

Hi there, I also recently accepted £50 to switch a direct debit and standing order. I am waiting for it to process. I was wondering if I was to cancel the standing order, can I still keep the £50? Assuming the standing order goes from Natwest to Halifax, will earn no interest.
  • I'm sorry I can't offer much advice but I hope you get it sorted, good luck! xxx

Not sure what you mean by standing order not earning any interest. As long as you use the switching service that £50 is yours. If in doubt, just call the bank and confirm.

I have a standing order for Natwest, I have to transfer £100 every month from my Natwest current account to my Natwest E-saver. The rate is 0.8% Net. I opened an Halifax reward current account. Halifax said they would switch the standing order for £50. If the money goes from my Natwest current account goes to my Halifax reward current account, I assume I won't earn any interest, as I am already earning £5 a month for the reward current account. I am not sure if the Natwest E-saver closes, or how the transfer works. I might keep the switched standing order even if I earn no interest. As, I don't want Halifax to take back the £50 if I cancel the standing order.

Halifax will send you a list of direct debits to confirm. Just don't select this standing order. You don't have to transfer all your direct debits. 0.8% interest seems a bit low, have you looked in to other regular savers ?
I would suggest get rid of natwest esaver if you can and open a saving account with Halifax. They are currently offering 3% interest for Reward customers.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have an AA Internet ISA at 3.35%, which I haven't filled up yet.

Why is the need to keep this natwest esaver then ?

I could delete it. The good thing, is that there is no waiting time if I was to transfer money to it from my Natwest current account, it transfer instantly. I don't have a lot in it anyway, I use my saving to pay into my AA internet ISA. It's better then my Natwest current account which is 0.08% Net.
