I'm going a laptop/netbook for OH to use whilst she is away at the inlaws place. The only things its going to be used for is Skype and general browsing. I was looking at a netbook via ebuyer (emachine E350) but then noticed that tesco had the same machine cheaper (£159). They also recently had a laptop on offer for £299 (500GB HDD, 4GB RAM compaq) but this has just finished.

Questions:-
1. Should I just go for the basic netbook for its current use or also bear in mind we have two kids in the household whos laptops are 2-3 years old, go for a laptop and swap with them

2. Where is a good place online to keep an eye out for new netbooks/laptops? Like I said above, Ive looked at Ebuyer but some of the machines on there are cheaper at Tesco.

(If recommending netbook would prefer Windows starter and webcam/wifi.....for laptop see above for basic requirements+webcam)

there is a load of new laptops in europe warehouses [ acer I think ] boss was sacked when a/c's showed 90mil of stock stored and not sold , so bargains coming for those with patience.
  • Junior's just bought the E350 from Amazon for £159 for much the same uses; I'm surprised and impressed by the wee thing.

Running all the Windows Updates is a pain, though.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

I am also after a Netbook, with long battery life, wifi, webcam and upto 250GB HD, 3+ usb ports. Anyone know of any good offers for a decent one?

I'd keep an eye on Argos Outlet (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Argos-Outlet) and Ebuyer Express (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Ebuyer-Express-Shop) on Ebay, as they often have new and refurbished laptops and netbooks at very good prices, all with a 12-month warranty. Go through Quidco or Topcashback for a pound or two cash back as well.

But what would she prefer, a Netbook or laptop?
As illustrated by MarkBargain, you can pick up a decent Netbook for as little as £150 or a decent basic laptop from £200.
A laptop with be more capable, but is long battery life(say eight hours) and portability important?
