Equifax have taken £70 even though i cancelled within the 30 day free trial

What are the chances of me getting this money back?

I'm going to call them tomorrow but i'm really worried they are going to fob me off. I called and cancelled my account 2 weeks ago and now they've taken £70 from my account pushing me into my overdraft :(

I can't remember the date i cancelled but know it was only about 10 days after i got my credit report. It took ages on the phone as the girl said their system was slow. Now i'm not sure whether she actually did it.

I cant afford to lose £70 for a credit report i realised i didnt need anyway.

Has anyone else had this problem with them taking money after closing their account?

    No problem myself.

All I could advise you to do is to try calling them first, asking for the money back after explaining that you cancelled and fingers crossed you should get a refund.

If not, a stern letter to their head office usually does the trick.

I'm sure some more MSE guru's will be along soon with more advice :)
  • I inadvertantly signed up for something with them and they took 5.99 for two months, I emailed them to stop the payments but they did not refund any money, just said that they would cancel my account (?) and that I could use it to get information until the time paid for had ended.

Suggest you speak to your Bank and expalin that you canceled it and the Bank should get your money back for you. That is what should happen with a direct debit mandate. This has the advantage that you can tell them about the overdaft situation while you're speaking to them and they might help.

    Good Luck

I told the bank that yesterday and they said i needed to speak to equifax. Funny how they took the money knowing i couldnt call them as they aren't contactable over the weekends. :(

  • Ill be honest, they did that with me a few years back. They are very good and you will get your cash back. Dont let it worry you too much.

Moneys are taken automatically by a computer once setup.

Looks like the girl you spoke to might of errored in cancelling the account.

I always when i ring a company make a note of the time, date, and person i spoke to in a file for reference. trust me its so handy when someone messes up on the other end.
