Timing a switch of supplier effectively

My fix with nPower Online 18 ends on 30th June up until which point a cancellation fee of £20 per fuel applies. Based on my usage British Gas Websaver 12 appears to be the best option and I can get cashback via Energylynx.

I'd like to apply to switch as soon as possible but don't want to be hit with cancellation charges by nPower. Should I wait until the 30th to apply or, given that the switch may take a few weeks to effect, would it be ok to apply now?

Hi Grade_A_Reject The day your new supplier actually takes over your supply is the date that counts so far as to whether or not you moved before your old contract expired, and as it usually takes at least 3 weeks for your Switch instruction to take effect , you would be on safe ground by starting the switch on or after 25th June

However, take a good look at any communication you have had, or will get from n'power to see what tariff they are proposing to put you on after June 30th - Pigs might fly but there is a small chance it's better than BG's 12, or they are rolling you forward onto another Penalty Claused tariff if you dont give them notice within the period stated.

    Thanks.

nPower have already told me that they'll be moving me onto their standard tarrif. I've done comparisons already and BG Websaver 12 comes out top.

I might leave it another week before starting the switch, what I don't want to do is get hit by cancellation charges for the sake of waiting another few days.
