I've just taken over a residents association and we have a gmail account.
The previous chair who has moved abroad set up a mailing list and the way we send emails to that group is by sending the email to xxxresidentsassociation@googlegroups.com
I've recruited new members and want to add them to the mailing.
The problem is that when I open our Gmail account there isn't actually a 'Group' setup so that I can modify or add people to the list.

I know that sending to the email to that @googlegroups address works though but I can't workout how I get into the group to change it!
Can anybody help?

I run a Google group, and I can't get to it via Google mail, because I don't have a gmail email address!
You need to find your group via
http://groups.google.com/
You can then (assuming you have manager rights) use the management tasks to add and remove users. Be aware that in my experience it's ~much~ easier to send an invite to new users than to add them directly, as they can then subsequently change their details, while if you add them directly they probably won't be able to.0 -
Thats the weird thing. I did that and I cant find it.
I've even typed in the xxxxxx@googlegroups.com and there is nothing coming up. What on earth am I going to do?0 -
Then it's probably been set up with "do not list" in the Google Groups directory. Mine is too, and is not found via the group search facility.
Have you tried going to http://groups.google.com/group/xxxxxx/
where xxxxxx is the first part of the group email address as in your post above?0 -
That's it nailed. Thanks so much!
Given that it's a mailing list I think that I will try to to export the contacts and import into gmail. I'm presuming that's straight forward?0 -
Yes, you could just export the member list as a .csv file and import it into your gmail contacts, but beware:
1. If members change their details directly on the group, your list will not be updated accordingly, so you will get delivery failures if they change email address.
2. You cannot easily accommodate members who choose "digest", "abridged" or "no emails" in their group preferences. I use the latter regularly when I'm away from home to reduce the extent to which my mailbox fills up while I'm away.
So you would be trying to short-cut across many of the features that make a group like that useful and flexible.0
