Cannot copy DVD to CD on new p.c.

I've recently had a new p.c. with a DVD+-RW included, but can no longer copy from DVD to CD. I used to select music tracks from DVD on my old rewriter and copy to CD for use in the car, but have tried everything and can't seem to select tracks without copying the whole DVD (and being told it can't be copied due to lack of space).
I'm using (or trying to use) Nero Essentials, whereas I used to use an older version of Nero with no problems.
I'm presuming it's likely to be the new DVD rewriter, or can anyone recommend a better copying/burning program to use?
Many thanks for any help.

I've never used Nero Essential, still using Nero v6
you should be able to select that you want an AUDIO CD and then drag the MP3s over to the compilation. Nero should convert them to Audio CD as it burns.
Does your car play MP3s ? If so you may be able to copy over as a DATA CD to leave the files as MP3s.0 -
Every time I try to drag the individual albums/tracks to burn them, I get a message up saying the files are incompatible with my copying disk CD-7 and that I should put a DVD R/RW or DVD+R DL disc in. I never used to have this problem with my old p.c. and a different re-writer, so still wondering if it's the re-writer in my p.c. and not the Nero 7 software?
Can anyone throw any light on this?Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Have you tried changing the drive from within nero (should be a drop down box) to select a CD-RW instead od DVD-RW? (on the same drive letter)
I usually have to do this when burning CDs instead of DVDs!0 -

I don't know where this option is ... I've looked time and time again and thought I'd tried everything. Do you have Nero 7 Essentials, so you can let me know?

Thanks.
Sorry, I have the full Nero 7 version (Nero 7 Essentials is the scaled down version) so I may not be able to help.
Is there an option to select "Final Burn Settings"? This is where you can set the "Current Recorder" and select it as CD for the drive in question.
It may be that the Essentials version doesn't have this and relies on auto-detecting whether you've got a DVD/CD in the drive?0 -

I think you're right, it relies on auto detecting ... looks like I've wasted my money with this version. Many thanks for your help anyway, I'll look on ebay for the full version.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
search for a prog called freeripmp3.
We use this when we want to record our audio to listen to on an mp3 player.
It auto detects the tracks and you tick the ones you want and save to a folder. Then you can just open ordinary burning software and burn to cd.0 -

Tried this thanks, but keep getting a message up saying incompatible disks. I'm pretty sure now that it's the DVD rewriter in my new p.c. that's the problem ... I never used to have this problem with my "old" Pioneer in my other machine (now sold on ebay!).Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0
