Hi, what do you think of a black tie wedding in August, my mother thinks it's not a good idea because it's summer but i'm kinda stuck on the idea.

Hi,
We went to a Black Tie wedding at the end of May & it was lovely:D Black Tie for Men & cocktail dresses for the ladies, everyone looked really smart. I don't see why not just cause it's supposed to be summer!
Go for itMarried the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -
thanks, the weather could be awful like today anyway, plus i'm finding black tie easier to plan as i don't have to worry about getting things in the right shade and i've just had some lovely bridesmaid dresses back from debenhams for £47.50 each which are gorge on.0

Do you mean asking the guests to wear certain clothes?
Personally I don't like being told what to wear to a special occassion, especially if it means I'll have to buy something new to "match the theme".0 -
We went to black tie do recently where the theme was black and white and all the women were asked to wear black and /or white.
Must admit I thought it was abit of a shame really as being summer it looked all wrong (personally I love colour!)
A black tie to me is where the men where dinner jackets and the ladies where evening dresses and not necessarily a black dress2014 Target;

i totally agree i'm not setting a colour for my guests, the venue will be black and white and the main wedding party but the guests would just be asked to come black tie and knowing my family and friends they'll love an excuse to dress up, also the suit hire company i have found do a £30 tux option inc tie and shirt for guests so that's cheaper than going out and buying a new suit.0

I think it sounds fantastic and I love the fact that you've thought about cheap tux hire for your guests, I'm sure that'll be appreciated!
If you go onto TheKnot.com (you have to register but it is free to do so) you can search by colour theme and they have loads of brilliant pictures on there of monochrome weddings which I'm sure will convince your Mum!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Hi,
Traditionally, I wouldn't go for black tie unless you were having a late ceremony and an evening only do. I love the idea but black tie is traditionally evening, not day dress.
Some family members do get funny about this kind of stuff. My grandad was horrified to hear that the young men at the wedding wouldn't be wearing morning suits!!

Think it sounds great! My brother had black and White theme for their wedding a few years ago at beginning of September, it was a lovely hot day but worked out well. Bride was in white, groom, best men, ushers were in black suits with White shirts and black ties. Us bridesmaides had lovely black dresses which had black and White sashes on then had black shoes and White roses in bouquet. It looked really effective.0

As a guest, if I saw black tie on an invite - I wouldn't understand that to mean wear black or white. It means a dinner jacket for men and cocktail dresses/ball gowns for ladies.0

i think i am officially the most indecisive bride to be ever, i have always loved black and white but have toyed with the idea of lilac and just ordered this dress form coast ...
so now i'm going to have my maids try on all the potential dresses i have bought (and there are quiet a few) and decide on my theme from there.
