Why is my car so popular?

Sounds a daft question but I have a Land Rover Discovery TD5 (1999) and in the last week I have had 3 people knock on my door and ask if I will sell them my car!
Its not for sale, but why might there be interest all of a sudden - are they in short supply?
I find it all a bit strange - its not in great condition and is currently off the road due to a number of problems-but even when I explain this to the interested parties - they still want to buy it!!!!!
Whats going on?
and how much is it worth?

Because it looks off the road and they think they can get it for buttons. Had no end of folks at the door when I had an old range rover sitting.
Worth? Scrap alone perhaps as much as £450? (based on £180 a ton locally around 2 months ago, 2.5 ton perhaps?), probably more ebayed as spares or repairs.

I'm amazed at how observant some people are when it comes to this.
We had a 1998 Volvo S40 sat on the drive for a month while a friend went on holiday. It didn't look abandoned in the slightest, but two people rang the bell to ask if it was for sale because they hadn't seen it move. There wasn't even much special about that car, at least that I know of.

We also had a Robin Rialto sitting on the drive for a few months which got loads of interest, but that's an unusual car so we half expected that!

  • i had a corsa sat out front for 4 weeks while i rebuilt the front end on it and done the HG a few years ago as the OH was going to learn to drive i wanted something cheap and nasty and her uncle had it sat in the yard for ages pondering to repair it ( non registered write off) on asking him can i have a gander at it said i could have it if i fixed it, front end complety away from the car, and about 2-3 people a week would come up and ask how much as it was going for, when i had repaired it spending about £200, her uncle wanted to buy it back and offered me £900 couldnt refuse :), but it did annoy me that people walked up from nowere saying how much you want for it i got cash in my pocket for it take it as is was offered £300 at one point and was tempted, but thought it would make a lovely little runner for the missus to learn in she never did get round to learning either.

Like I said I was not going to sell it as it will only cost £300 to get it back on the road again!
Its a good looking car but has a couple of scrapes and small dent on front bumper.
Its going in the garage next week to get fixed and MOT'd and then back on the road.
Didn't think people took much notice of cars in drives - just goes to show how wrong I am!
If I was going to sell it I would be looking around £1500 (I think)
