plastering the whole house

hi all, currently doing up a 3 bed terrace in staffs and wondering how i find a decent plasterer, have been quoted from 1800 plus materials to 8.5k!

the whole house including ceilings need doing and i want to be sure its done right, there doesn't seem to be any governing body for plasterers so is it a case of wait and see, could be too late by then.

how did you find yours?

Most people just ask around in work or family or friends.

Someone told me that the rule of thumb was around £250-£350 per room. Includes ceiling. Bigger jobs will cost more. You need to ask if it is a skim or not.

Depends. The house next door to us was being done up and I asked the plasterer there who did a great job. He came in and looked at what needed done in our house (the whole hall/staircase and front bedroom). For getting the plaster odd the walls and replastering he quoted £300-£400. Considering the area, this was a great price. (3 bed semi)
  • Is this just for a skim onto existing plaster? or does it include the plasterer drywalling the rooms? Depending on your ability you could do the drywalling yourself (with a lending hand from someone else).

£200 a room is about right for just a skim. Just make sure the rooms are empty as its very messy, and if the plasterer is using stilts to do your ceiling and upper walls it reduces the chance of them tripping over (its a long way to fall).

Having said that, your best bet is to find a friend, or a friend of a friend, buy the plaster yourself, then stick some cash in their hand (80-100 quid usualy).

Perhaps you could find a Polish plasterer as they seem to be adept at doing everything else, and they work so hard and are diligent...yawn..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
