Car hire deposit

At the beginning of May, two friends of mine visited the UK from Thailand. They hired a car for five days from a company at Heathrow. They had to pay £600 deposit and £70 fuel deposit on the day they hired the vehicle. They gave a credit card. This £670 was charged to their credit card (not put on hold). They returned the car with a full tank of fuel as per the contract and was told by the company that the credit card charges would be refunded.

It is now 6 weeks later and my friend has just contacted me to say that the £670 has still to be credited. They have contacted the company several times but the company have yet to pay the money back.

What can they do and what can I do to help as a UK citizen?

Many thanks.
